been kill pendergraph ed in a separate protest today. first of all, what can you tell us about the journalist's death today? >> reporter: the death of this protestor is concerned, it all started from last sunday. there was a 23-year-old victim who was gang raped on a moving bus, and there have been protests all over new delhi after that and protests all over the country as well. in this protest it wasn't clear what india gave in the center of the new delhi. it's not far from the indian parliament so it's a high security area, and the police have been giving warnings to people all day. finally in the evening they approached the crowds and they started to hit them with batons, they targeted them with water cannons asking them it to get out of the streets. that's the central part that was taken over by the police right now. >> and that's what you're seeing now. do you see the protesters? are they running away or injured being clubbed by authorities there? >> reporter: no. as far as the protestors are concerned thash concern concerned, they're back to the location. the police aren'

's been updating us on everything that's happening. we'll be listening to what he has to say, hopefully getting more details about the shooter. hopefully getting some more details about the next steps in their investigation, lots of questions of why this morning. right now we're on the scene provely a half mile behind me, you get to the elementary school are where this happen. not only was the school an active crime scene as we're told, but the temporary morgue has been delivered here up from new york city to help out in the processing of the more than two dozen bodies that are the aftermath of this crime. we also know that there are investigations happening nearby because of the mother of the shooter was killed as well. and we also know that there's investigations into the weaponry that was used. we know three weapons were used, two pistols and one semiautomatic rifle. so we continue to follow this story here. and we -- we will update you on the latest. we know more, too, about some of the victims. nick valencia has been covering that part of the story for us. police have a new stateme

to our international viewers joining us from around the world. i'm ali velshi, you're watching cnn's special coverage of the connecticut school shooting. we are live in newtown, connecticut. here's what we know this morning about what happened at sandy hook elementary school. in about 30 minutes we expect authorities to hold a news conference right where i am and release the identities of the victims. police say 20 children between the ages of 5 and 10 were killed as well as six adults at the school including the principal and psychologist. sources say adam lanza was armed with three guns, two on him, one found in a car nearby. police say he got the guns from his mother who owned them. she was licensed to have them. she was found dead in her home about 2 1/2 miles from where i am now. every new detail helped paint a picture of a horrifying tragedy. cnn's anderson cooper explains how it unfolded moment by moment. >> all units, the individual i have on the phone is continuing to hear what he believes to be gun shots. >> reporter: the first word was chilling. it only got worse. >> the
